Dear NAHUC Members and Friends:

I want to start by thanking all those that were able to attend the annual educational conference held this year in Memphis, Tennessee.  I learned so much from the presenters.  They all did a fantastic job and I also would like to thank them for coming and supporting the health unit coordinators throughout the country.

It was also fun to meet and talk with so many of you at the conference.  I was able to see many old friends and meet many new friends.  It was a privilege to give a little “music” to as many attendees as I could.  I plan to nurture both my new and old friendships and want to meet many more of you at the next annual educational conference in Denver, Colorado on August 4-7, 2010.  If I didn’t get a chance to meet you or if you weren’t able to attend, I am always available via e-mail at juliann.olsen@imail.org.  I would love to hear from any or all of the members.

I would like to congratulate Sherry Smith from Winter Haven, Florida on being awarded the Certified Health Unit Coordinator of the Year Award for 2009.  She is a great example of a dedicated health unit coordinator.  I would also like to congratulate Huntsville Hospital of Huntsville, Alabama who won the Institutional Provider of the Year Award.  I was able to visit there in April 2009 and experience their enthusiasm and the support this facility gives their health unit assistants.  I also want to let you know how honored and humbled I was to receive the Outstanding Individual of the Year Award.  I want to thank all of you for the support you give me.

I would like to encourage all of you to spread the word about our professional association.  Let your colleagues and peers know that we are professionals and that we have an association.  Encourage them to become members and your facilities to become institutional providers.  The more support we can get from each other, the better we will become.  Keep your spirits high and move forward with pride and professionalism.

Sincerely,

Juliann Olsen, CHUC
