Message from Juliann Olsen, NAHUC President:

Last Revised 12/28/09

We, the NAHUC Board of Directors, are committed to the members of the association and want the members to know that we are aware of the wonderful things that the health unit coordinators throughout the country are doing.  We appreciate that YOU are the ones that help us grow through membership, certification, and education.

I hear so many wonderful stories about how YOU are furthering our profession.  I would like to put out a challenge to health unit coordinators throughout the United States and Canada to share your stories about what you are doing to promote health unit coordinating.  Are you having H.U.C. in-services in your facilities?  Are you holding chapter meetings?  What types of activities are you doing in your facilities or area to celebrate H.U.C.’s?    I would also like stories as to how health unit coordinators have impacted patients’, families’ and staff’s lives.  Is there a unit coordinator that has gone out of their way to help someone else?  Is there one that you would like to spotlight?  I would like to hear about it.  Please send your stories or information to either me at juliann.olsen@imail.org or the NAHUC office.  We can all learn from each other.  The NAHUC board of directors and members want to hear your story.

I am looking forward to the coming year and serving the members of NAHUC.  I hope that we can engage our co-workers and non-members and help them also.  I am excited to help the association along in changes that the board of directors will investigate to improve our service and fiscal responsibility to the members.  We will keep the members involved and informed of our goals and projects to promote health unit coordinating in addition to any changes that will be made.  The board of directors will continue to work on NAHUC’s strategic planning and to complete the goals that are set.

I also hope that you as members will set goals to help further our profession.  May we always be proud of what we do and the service we provide to patients, families and staff.

All the best to you in the new year,

Juliann Olsen, CHUC

NAHUC President
