Taking Ownership In Your Duties As A Role Model

Some people are “hands-on” leaders at work while others are content on remaining detached.  Those who remain aloof refuse to take ownership of their professional responsibilities.  Many times health unit coordinators are seen as leaders even though they may not exemplify the true meaning of a leader.  They set examples good or bad without realizing the impact of their actions.  For example:

A Unit Coordinator’s Dream

????? Is My Role Model!!!!!

  1. If I don’t do anything, don’t blame me.
  2. If I am a no show/no call, don’t blame me.
  3. If I am away from my desk without telling anyone, don’t blame me.
  4. If I go for long breakfast breaks, don’t blame me.
  5. If I go for long lunch breaks, don’t blame me.
  6. If my desk is disorganized, don’t blame me.
  7. I am just following my role model.
  8. If you want to blame me, then I have to blame you, too.

As you can see by this case in point, what you do and say is observed by others.  We are treated by others by the actions we do.  If we want to be seen as professionals, we must act as such.  It is my hope that we all re-examine our roles as the cream of the crop of our profession.  Stand up and be proud to be a health unit coordinator!

Sincerely,

Kelly Lemanski
