Region/Membership News

Last Revised: 9/28/10

Another month has gone by. The fall season is upon us. With the above 100 degree weather gone, nature's changes in color brings to mind inspiring memories of the happenings at the board of directors meeting at the annual education conference in Denver.

As the Membership Director, there are a few changes I would like to implement at least for this first year of the restructuring. With no election this year, I am combining some of the duties of the Nominating and Awards committees. Nominations for certified health unit coordinator, institutional provider and outstanding individual of the year are still due by April 1 and will still be reviewed by current members of the Awards Committee.

The biggest change is the region representative position. The new position of State/Region Liaison is replacing the former region representative position. The Liaisons will be volunteer/non-elected positions and will report to me, the Membership Director. Because it is a newly formed position, it is a work in progress and the responsibilities may change to meet the needs of the members. Initially, the liaison will act as a link to assist with communication and cooperation between health unit coordinators in their geographical area and the NAHUC Board of Directors. Liaisons will be asked to accept emails from health unit coordinators in their area and collate and share the information with me on a quarterly basis. Following is an example of the type of information we would like to receive:

  1. Ideas to increase NAHUC membership and grow the association

  2. Requests for special activities (workshops, chapter meeting)

  3. Changes in the HUC position (certification requirements, CPOE)

This will be a learning experience for the liaisons and for the board of directors. Participation from as many states and provinces as possible is vital. If you are interested in becoming a liaison for your state or province, please apply. Application is simple: complete a NAHUC committee application and submit to the NAHUC office. The form can be accessed at the link  Forms\candidate_application.htm The only requirements are current NAHUC membership, email access, and time.  The liaison position is a wonderful opportunity for NAHUC members to get more involved with their association.  I look forward to receiving many applications and uniting members.

Sincerely,

Sara Brown
