Member additions/comments-discussion regarding workshop in Huntsville and role of the Education Board members

 

 April 16, 2009

I.                    Education Conference-Review evaluations

a.       Evaluations were good, nothing was outstanding

b.      Education Board Comments-Big hotel, smoking, workshops on same level, breaks longer, evening workshop good, block rooms in wings, signage needs to improve, good to have First Timers event

II.                 HUC Education Program Procedure Guide-Will review when reprinting required.

III.               2009 goals-goals ending at the end of this month, no additional comments on 2009 goals.

IV.              Education Activities

a.       Trinity (HSTN) Videos-nothing to report

b.      Speakers Bureau-Used

c.       Certification Review-Frances Brooks did it at the 2008 Education Conference and is being offered in 2009 at the Education Conference

d.      CD programs-exploring this option, will continue to explore

e.       Questionnaires-lots, lots, lots

       Article requirements-Encourage to write

       Quiz requirements-Encourage to write

f.        Pass/fail percentage-70% is passing otherwise return to correct and resubmit

g.       Certificates-on web quizzes e-certificates are available if requested

h.       Coordinator additions-add e-mail and telephone, Please allow up to six weeks for contact hour certificates, volunteers different folks correcting

V.                 Providers

a.       IP’s-Increase in interest a bit, explore offer discount for multiple year providership, provide list of topics on Speaker Bureau to each IP with renewal

b.      Chapter Providers-There has been no issues

 

 

VI.              Resources

a.       Board of Directors-February 2009- Conference responsibilities,  look at restructuring the board, membership list, of functions office management does for members so that members know

VII.            Board Meeting-NAHUC Action Assignment-on line learning, e-certificates

 

      VIII.     Heath Care Reform-Journal club, poster education in the round

 

VIII.         CPOE/POE-Lori is on the committee, journal club, poster in the round-ask Donna to do, one minute paper. Recommend to do job task analysis this year.

 

IX.              NAHUC Education Conference-Speakers set for this year

            Review Speakers/presentations-reviewed

            Denver conference-Note in Coordinator searching for presenters for Denver (Aug 25-28 or Aug 4-7) and announce at conference, and on evaluation. Bingo terminology, games for Denver, stations  

X.                 Magnet Hospitals-Keep watching (create unit clerk councils)

XI.              Goals for 2009/2010-

a.       Continue current goals add new projects

XII.            Pensacola Junior College-At this point only option is for college to become IP for $300, and then can offer contact hours to health unit coordinators, the college has the right to create a course as they see fit for the student.

XIII.         Reviewed Ed Board Policies-Will continue to review and recommend changes as needed. Will follow BOD Travel policy. Hopefully in the future will post all NAHUC polices on line for members to access on line.

XIV.         Review Contact hours-As of January 1, 2007 all programming awards contact hour based on 60 minutes equals 1 contact hour.

XVI.         Recommendations to BOD Summer Meeting

a.       Vendors at Education Conference from local area

b.      Request Certification Board to start the process of job task analysis this year due to the rapid changes in health care

c.       IP for 2-3 year renewals at a reduced rate

d.      Certification Board to look at reduced rate for members retired who are over 65 and choose to keep their certification current
