Answer: As a NAHUC member, you receive brochures for workshops which will provide NAHUC contact hours as well as obtain free contact hours by submitting the questionnaire from the Coordinator.
These contact hours will be necessary for you to maintain your certification status. You will also receive a discount on recertification if you are a member in good standing of NAHUC. You may have the NAHUC office keep track of your contact hours for a nominal fee if requested at the time of recertification.
NAHUC membership offers an opportunity for bench marking, developing leadership skills through participation in chapter/state, regional and national committees, continuing education for job enhancement and discount for convention and workshop registration.
As a NAHUC member, you receive a NAHUC membership pin, a quarterly newsletter - the Coordinator, a NAHUC Information Book, a Regional newsletter and information regarding workshops to be held locally and nationally.

Answer:
1. Professionalism. The mark of a true professional is growth and development. If you took the exam in 1984, how could you demonstrate that you still have the knowledge and skill necessary to function in the year 2000? Other words associated with a professional are adept, skillful, learned, trained, experienced and masterful.
2. Pride. Pride in yourself, your work and in your profession. A Certified Health Unit Coordinator has demonstrated by passing the NAHUC Certification Examination that she has the knowledge and skills necessary to function as a health unit coordinator.
3. Personal integrity. Maintaining your certification indicates a commitment to yourself and your goals for being the best.
Question Four: How do I remain certified?
Answer: To remain certified, you must either retake the Certification exam every three years or have taken 36 contact hours in a three year period and fill out the recertification application. The fee to recertify is $75.00.
Answer: Yes. If you are retired, or have become ill and cannot work, or you are not functioning as a health unit coordinator, you may apply for inactivation. You must submit for inactivation every three years and pay a $30.00 processing fee. To reactivate, you must either retake the Certification exam or have taken 36 contact hours during the preceding three year period and fill out the recertification application. The fee to recertify is $75.00.
If you fail to complete either of the these options, apply for continued inactivation or reactivate before the three year period is over, your certification will be revoked.
